K’gari Tours
K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) is situated just off the Queensland coast opposite Hervey Bay. As the world's largest sand island, it boasts an unparalleled and diverse ecosystem. There is so much for you to discover on this beautiful island.
Long stretches of uninterrupted white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, over 100 freshwater lakes, pristine rainforest, coloured sand cliffs and ancient sand dunes, create the stunning natural beauty of K'gari.
Explore The Western Side of K'gari
Most tours to K'gari include a ferry trip across to the island, followed by a 4WD tour, but at Tasman Venture we like to do things a little differently. Our full-day tour leaves from Hervey Bay and takes you across to K'gari on our Catamaran. We also leave the crowds behind and explore the Western side of K'gari.
What does the 'Western side' of K'gari mean? Most tours over to K'gari will explore the Eastern side of the island, as this is where the ferry docks. In fact, it would take you 6-7 hours to drive to the Western Side of the island if you caught the ferry. So when we say we leave the crowds behind, we mean it. We have three epic stops on our tour:
Wathumba Creek
Wathumba Creek is a spectacular hidden gem in K'gari, a pristine creek system which come high tide is a large saltwater lake. You'll be blown away by the beautiful white beaches and clear turquoise water. At Wathumba Creek you will have the chance to snorkel and go for a kayak in the awe-inpsiring creek system.
Awinya Creek
We like to think of Awinya Creek as the "hinterland" of K'gari. Get off the beaten track with us as we kayak up through the fresh water of Awinya Creek. While kayaking you'll be in for a treat as we look out for the local wildlife and flora. While we're at Awinya Creek you'll also have a chance to have an adrenaline-pumping tube ride in the ocean.
Awinya Creek isn't what you picture when K'gari comes to mind, and that's what makes it so special in our minds! It is the perfect place to see just how diverse K'gari really is. If you're looking for unique places in K'gari away from the crowds, Awinya Creek is going to blow you away.
Bowarrady Creek
When you think of K'gari you're probably picturing white sand beaches, but did you know that there is coloured sand too? Our first stop at Bowarrady Creek is to see this mesmerising site. After checking out the coloured sand, it's time to get a birds eye view of K'gari and Platypus Bay.
Join us as we climb up a sand dune and be rewarded with 360 degree views of K'gari and Platypus Bay. Being up this high will show you just how big K'gari is. Afterall, it is the largest sand island in the world. After our hike, enjoy cooling off in the freshwater creek and natural water holes of this beautiful area.
Discover the abundant native Australian wildlife on K'gari
The Island is home to 230 species of birds, Australia’s purest dingos and many other species.
The largest creek on the island is Wathumba Creek. With clear turquoise water, turtles and stunning white beaches it is a great place to sit & swim.
Awinya Creek, roughly halfway between Moon Point and Wathumba Creek, has clear fresh water that you will kayak along and discover the diverse wildlife including birds and fish. Bowarrady Creek is approximately 14.5km in length and offers amazing sweeping views of K'gari as you hike over ancient sand dunes.
The Great Sandy Straits separates mainland from K'gari. Rare or endangered species such as dugong, turtles, dolphins, curlews and migrating birds can be found along the way as you enjoy your cruise on the Remote K'gari Tour.
