What to Expect

Departing from the Hervey Bay Marina after our safety brief, we’ll cruise through the Great Sandy Straits, then set off along the West Coast of Fraser Island where we will either start our search for Humpback Whales in Platypus Bay or travel to our first remote location on Fraser Island depending on tide and sea conditions. Guests will be given the chance to visit up to two locations on Fraser Island. Every tour will be different so drop your expectations and relax, trust the Skipper will provide you with the most amazing experience based on the conditions on the day.

Be one of the few to discover the seclusion and hidden treasures that Fraser Island has to offer. There will be many points of interest to stop or go slow and capture the moments, along with kayaking, swimming, snorkeling and tubing experiences on offer if you wish.

Itinerary

Meeting and Safety Briefing Expand

We will start boarding our Vessel for the day 15 minutes prior to departure at the Hervey Bay Marina. We’ll go over any safety concerns and brief you on the plan for the day’s tour before heading off for the days adventure.

Great Sandy Straits and Platypus Bay Expand

Cruising out of the harbor we will travel across the Great Sandy Straits to Fraser Island where we meet Moon Point (the halfway point of Fraser Island). We will continue travelling north alongside Fraser Island into Platypus Bay. Keep a keen eye out for dolphins, turtles and dugongs that are frequently seen on our journey.

Wathumba Creek Expand

Explore Fraser Islands iconic Wathumba creek that transforms into a large ocean lake at high tide. At this location you will have an opportunity to snorkel in the clear waters observing many species of fish in their breeding habitat and turtles, and stingrays. Guided kayaking up through the creek systems will be on offer or take the opportunity to relax, swim or take a walk along the pristine beaches.

Awinya Creek Expand

Guided kayaking up into the hinterland of Fraser Island through the fresh water of Awinya Creek observing the local flora and fauna of this remote location including mangroves and diverse bird life. Thrill seeking water sports are also on offer at this location or take another opportunity to relax, swim or enjoy the beach.

Bowarrady Creek Expand

Landing at this location we will first stop off at the coloured sands and from here climb up the ancient sand dune where you can marvel at the 360 degree views of Fraser island and Platypus Bay. Following this cool off with a walk along the freshwater creek and take a dip in the natural water hole where this creek system disappears up into the hinterland of the island.

Whale Watching Encounters Expand

Be on the lookout for Humpback whales and experience the thrill of getting up close and personal with these majestic creatures as they frolic in the calm, clear waters off Fraser Island.

When conditions permit be one of the few and very fortunate to experience an intimate, immersive whale experience that allows you to get closer to these creatures than ever before and swim with them in their own natural environment.

FAQ

What locations to you visit on Fraser Island? Expand

You will visit up to three remote locations on Fraser Island as part of this tour. These locations include but are not limited to Wathumba, Awinya and Bowarrady Creeks. The tour will be different everyday depending on sea and tide conditions - we'll only take you to the best spots and offer you the best experiences based on the day.

How many people travel on your tour? Expand

This tour caters for low passenger numbers ensuring an intimate, personalised tour. Our maximum passenger number is 30, however this may increase when a larger vessel is substituted.

What wildlife will I expect to see on Fraser Island? Expand

Fraser Island has a diverse array of natural flora and fauna on offer. We frequently observe bird life, dingoes, fish, turtles, stingrays and wallabies.

What meals do you offer? Expand

Our dedicated staff will serve a delicious plated lunch of cold meats and salads and a scrumptious morning and afternoon tea to ensure guests won't go hungry. We cater for all dietary requirements on request.

Can I visit Lake McKenzie and the Maheno Shipwreck? Expand

This tour does not visit the inland or eastern destination on Fraser Island however if you would like to get the best of all of the locations that Fraser Island has to offer why not take advantage of one of our Fraser Island package deals.

Do you supply all of the equipment to go snorkelling and kayaking? Expand

All of your equipment required for snorkeling and kayaking is supplied with no additional charge. You are more than welcome to bring along your own snorkeling equipment if you prefer.

Do I need to take part in all activities? Expand

All activities on offer are not mandatory and you can choose to do all that is on offer or alternatively you can spend your time relaxing on the pristine beaches that are on offer throughout the day.

What do I need to bring? Expand

Most of your day will be spent on Fraser Island, with pit stops back to the boat throughout the day. Pack your bag as if you are heading for the beach for the day. We recommend you bring your swimsuit and towel, sunglasses and hat, walking shoes, sunscreen and a camera or phone to capture all of your memories.

Do you travel when it is raining? Expand

This tour operates rain or shine, except in the case of extreme weather that does not allow us to access Fraser Island.

When is Whale season? Expand

The Humpback Whales are observed in Hervey Bay during their southern migration which is usually during mid July – late October. The dates can vary year to year as the whales are wild animals and their migration changes slightly each year.

Can I swim with the whales? Expand

Our Whale immersion experience that is offered on the Remote Fraser Island and Whale Experience tour is not a guaranteed experience. It is offered at our skippers discretion based on a variety of factors including whale behavior and sea conditions.

How many whales will I see? Expand

The number of whales we see on each tour varies greatly throughout the season. Our peak season is between August to September.

What if we don’t see any whales on our tour? Expand

We do not guarantee whale sightings on the Remote Fraser Island and Whale Experience tour however it is very uncommon to not see whales during the season dates.
